Fashion and Home Decoration
"Decorating your home is the first step to starting you married life". Says the interior designer and the home decor companies. But you think a little differently. First of all, you are a newlywed and have no clue about decorating an apartment. Secondly you exceeded you're budget for the wedding and the honeymoon and are in no mood to hire a fancy interior designer. If you fall into the category of newlyweds mentioned above, you're more than welcome to read on.
No idea where to start? Like all decorations or "home-makeovers" start with the clean-up although in this case we would recommend professional help. A moderate sized apartment should take at least 2-3 days while bigger ones should take more time. If you're apartment is brand new , you're in luck because there is not much to do expect remove left over paint stains. On the other hand if you're apartment has been used it needs serious work.
Now comes the painting of the painting. Remember to choose the colors before hand and try out a few splotches on the wall. We prefer subtle colors or earthy tones because they give the room a tranquil feel. Some people prefer a single vibrant colored wall while the neighboring walls stay subtle. Textured walls have been the "in" thing for the last decade. Some of you may want to experiment and create a textured wall so first try out the design on a blank piece of canvas. Purchasing new furniture is big hassle for most couples because it usually involves a huge sum of money disappearing from their wallets. Yes it is important to have new furniture for your post-wedding decor, but don't over indulge. Remember not to over indulge; it's important that you don't start your married life bankrupt. Furniture must not clash with the wall colors or you could end up with an interior disaster. Start by decorating the living and dining rooms first. The dinner table must be the focus of the entire dining room. People love glass topped tables but avoid them if you tend to be clumsy with domestic work because they tend to be very fragile.
Decorating living rooms can be very pricey because they should look exquisite all the time. Color scheme plays a big part because anything too bright or ostentatious may end up looking tacky. Rugs and carpets should take up minimal space while their colors should complement the color of walls and the upholstery. Glass works well for the coffee table so go with it. We recommend coffee tables with storage space below so that it can also serve as a magazine stand. As for the sofa, it should be comfy yet elegant. Leather fulfils the criteria mentioned but be careful about the price tag. If you can't afford leather go for other options like wrought iron, wood they look as good and cost comparatively less. Spare cushions are an all time favorite; spread them out on the floor to get a more aesthetic effect. Bedrooms are a bit tricky because there are a variety of things you can do to make them stand out. First of all choose the bed. A nice comfy one will set you back by at least eleven thousand taka and it can go up to almost forty thousand. Bed side tables are not a must; but get a small one if you can spare the money. Matching curtains and bed spreads look great especially in floral prints. Remember curtains should not be too dark but something in more subtle tones. Spend charitably when it comes to purchasing a cupboard because you will need space to store all your clothes. If you think a dressing table makes your room too congested; get a cupboard with an inbuilt mirror so that it also functions as a dressing table.
Before you think that we're done wait. The important part is to come yet; the bathrooms. Before you go off to buying fancy shower curtains for your bathrooms; scribble shelves on top of list with bright red ink. Yes in small apartments it's vital that you attach shelves, preferably plastic. Wooden shelves look very classy but tend to start rotting when they come in contact with water so avoid them. Plastic shelves are water-resistant; durable and cheap so what more could you ask for? Shower curtains definitely keep the bathroom dry but get them only if you're bathroom has plenty of space.
When you're done with decorating all the rooms; congratulate yourself. Decorating an entire apartment almost by yourself is not easy, but you've done it. There's still work left to do though. Use your leftover cash to put the finishing touches; i.e selecting decorative pieces, paintings. A large wall clock in the dining or drawing room is an absolute necessity. We also prefer potted plants on the doorsteps and windowsills. And of course; do not forget to place a large "welcome" mat at your doorstep.
